Scream's opening scene consists of again a linear style where it is a story up until the young, blonde girl gets killed. It shows a nice, big house in America and the young girl all alone inside the huge house. The stereotype of a young blonde girl is that she isn't smart, she is innocent and not very intelligent defensively so therefore they are easy targets. This stereotype is also used in A Nightmare On Elm Street which is directed by Wes Craven.
Saw 1's opening consists of a linear sequence. The first 7 minutes of the scene shows 2 men locked up in a bathroom, a man that seems to be dead on the floor and a puzzle that they have to figure out what they need to do to get out of the bathroom and survive. However the very last minute or so of the scene shows a non-linear part where the screen is filled with constantly changes pictures of what has happened.
The opening scene from the movie The Purge consists of a non linear sequence. This implies that it is not all in order like a story. it is all jumbled up of different times and locations. it is constantly CCTV footage of previous Purge nights, showing to the audience all of the graphic events that happen on the night of the Purge. The use of the non linear demonstrates what could be happening all at one time, portraying the brutality of the Purge.
The remake of a Nightmare On Elm Street also consists of a non linear sequence. It shows, mainly pictures of school children and school equipment or toys. Things like toy bricks on fire demonstrates Freddy's younger adult years of how he got locked up and burned alive. The school children could represent his previous victims, and as Freddy worked at a school, the sequence constantly shows scenes of a school and the children in it.
