At the start it shows the villain's extension of himself, the claws being created. This shows that he is more attached to killings and finds it more personal than others. The site of activity is clearly portrayed as an innocent, blonde school girl which is commonly used in horror films. However, as Wes Craven is the director of the film, he has also used his theory of terrible things happen in places referred to safety. But can then be turned into a prison. The side of activity wakes up from the 'dream' and she notices that her dress has been clawed, so it can imply that Freddy has in fact broken the walls of safety.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
From the opening scene of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre it flashes images of the decayed body of a man. The opening scene is shown through constant flashes. It shows a recent victim of Leatherface, we know this as the skin of the victim's face has been completely ripped off. The link between the graveyard and the decaying body links with Carol Clovers theory of terrible things happening in terrible places. A graveyard is linked to death and the body of Leatherface's recent victim is left in the graveyard to be found by someone else.
